This call for more inclusion isn’t unusual for a protest movement like Pride, according to J.P. Catungal, an instructor at UBC’s Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice. The conversation happening now in Vancouver mirrors one that’s been going on within feminism for decades, but was particularly noisy during the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, he said.

Under the Vice Presidential Strategic Implementation Committee on Equity and Diversity (VPSICED), a Trans, Two-Spirited and Gender Diverse working group has been established, chaired by Dr. Mary Bryson, Senior Associate Dean, Administration & Innovation, Faculty of Education. The working group will provide recommendations to the VPSICED in the autumn.
