Biography
Maj Britt Jensen is a visual artist and PhD student at the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia. She lived and worked for well over a decade in Mexico City before moving to Vancouver in 2016. Her professional experience does not only come from art making and exhibiting in galleries, museums and alternative art spaces, but also from collective and participatory art projects carried out in public space; as such her non-academic experience is rich and varied.
Research
For the PhD in Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice, and as original contribution to knowledge, she puts forward the term: critical inner experience.
This concept will serve her as a tool to explore research-based artistic and performative practices, and feminist and postcolonial texts whilst keeping in mind the following questions: How does one jump from one continent, country, context, discipline, medium, material, language, author, thought to the other without flattening the discourse of interdisciplinarity? How and when does the body appear into the context of such a jump? How can I, a German-born, Colombian-raised, Mexican-educated artist, speak to diverse fragments without becoming the unifying subject? Do such assemblages allow for a becoming with/of critical thought?
