Celebrating the Institute’s 10th anniversary, alongside launching the Noted Scholar’s Series with an Inaugural Lecture by our former Director Professor Denise Ferreira Da Silva, marks its history as an important intellectual centre for interdisciplinary, socially committed research; engaged scholarship; innovative teaching-learning; critical-creative work; and various research networks.
Hired in 1998, I did not imagine myself someday following many dear UBC colleagues, well-known feminist and social justice scholars who served as Director and Program Chairs. I look up to them for inspiration and guidance.
With immense support from our Administrative Staff, faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, Faculty Research Associates, alumni, and community allies within and outside UBC – now all somehow connected through this digital newsletter – I am confident the Institute’s vision, mission and mandate will remain alive and well, invigorated by our ongoing conversations and dialogues.
