A number of GRSJ students are actively involved in a new and important online publication that has launched at UBC, that is very relevant to the issues that are central to the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice.
The Talon is a student-run publication at UBC, on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) territory. The students aim to stimulate discussion centred on social justice, offer accessible, critical perspectives on issues, and amplify the voices of marginalized groups. Currently, one of the editors is pursuing a major in GRSJ; as well, other Talon editors are actively involved in GRSJ classes and community, and various GRSJ students are guest writers, contributors, or active supporters of The Talon.
GRSJ major Kay Ho and the team at The Talon launched the online publication to provide an alternative to the media that currently exists at UBC.
“We want to make space for students who look into the predominant campus media and don’t see themselves or their perspectives reflected back at them. We aim to provide that platform, to spark conversation, and to build communities with activist groups on campus”.
