The award-winning film Whispers of Life, co-created with GRSJ Ph.D candidate Joshua M. Ferguson (Producer), has now landed a distribution deal that will take it into multiple venues throughout Canada.
Co-created with Florian Halbedl (Writer and Director) of Turbid Lake Pictures, the distributor McIntyre Media Inc. is Canada’s oldest educational distributor.
McIntyre’s distribution focuses on schools, school districts, colleges, universities, health units, hospitals, addiction treatment centres, organizations and public libraries across the country. McIntyre’s reach in Canada ensures that Whispers of Life will be able to serve as the critical cultural intervention into bullying and suicide prevention, especially related to youth and young adults.
The announcement signals the full circle journey of Whispers of Life from initial inception to production to festival exhibition and now distribution. In regards to other territories around the world, Turbid Lake Pictures is currently in negotiation and it is expected that International distribution will be announced very soon.
Whispers of Life tells the magical story about the interdependence of imagination and survival of Tom, a gay teenager, who is threatened by a bully’s homophobic words. As Tom sits on his park bench, ridden with angst, a stranger named Charles suddenly appears next to him and strikes up a conversation that forever alters the teenager’s future and life.
Whispers of Life has been selected by 21 film festivals around the world so far including festivals in the US, Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece, India and Australia. Whispers of Life has also been awarded both the Audience Choice and Jury Choice Awards at the 26th Reel Pride Winnipeg Film Festival, the Best Short Film Audience Award at Reelout Film + Video Film Festival and Festival Favourite at The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Recently, the film was nominated for the Director’s Guild of Canada Best Short Film Award.
