PhD student Joshua M. Ferguson of the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice has been sweeping the short film festival awards with Whispers of Life. They have just won the Best Short Film Audience Award at the Reelout Queer Film + Video Festival – their fourth major festival award. The film has now been selected by 15 film festivals around the world, from Switzerland to Australia.
“The short film works as an artistic intervention to challenge the societal taboo of suicide”, Joshua says, “The pervasive and damaging effects of anti-gay bullying and the fact that these issues are not discussed openly”.
Joshua will be featured in a story in an upcoming issue of Daily Xtra.
