Congratulations to GRSJ PhD candidate Allen Baylosis and GRSJ faculty member Dr. Isabel Machado, who have received an OER (Open Educational Resources) Rapid Innovation Grant to support the development of an open pedagogy project in Machado’s CSIS 450 course. The project involves students writing and producing illustrated essays as part of an open-access digital book. Baylosis will develop the editorial processes for the project and also provide the introduction to the book.
Project collaborators include Erin Fields, Open Education and Scholarly Communications Librarian, Digital Programs and Services, and Anne Olsen, Liaison Librarian Humanities & Social Sciences Division, who will provide research support for the project.
About OER Rapid Innovation Grants
Open Educational Resources (OER) are defined as “teaching, learning, and research resources that are free of cost and access barriers, and which also carry legal permission for open use. Generally, this permission is granted by the use of an open license (for example, a Creative Commons license) which allows anyone to freely use, adapt and share the resource—anytime, anywhere” (SPARC, n.d).
The OER Rapid Innovation Grants provide funding for a wide range of activities and events that seek to engage the UBC community in increasing awareness and capacity for supporting and sustaining the adoption, adaption, and creation of OER at UBC V.
