Title: Intersectional Issues in Social Justice and Equality Studies
Instructor: Dr. Chris Patterson

Description: This course introduces students to the key concepts and issues of a theory and praxis of social justice in the global present.  Students will become familiar with current debates, key concepts, and innovative scholarship through: a) a series of dialogues on key concepts and debates led by SJI faculty and b) the presentations and dialogue with local, national and international noted scholars and the reading of their work.

The course aims to facilitate the development of the students’ critical scholarship and praxis thinking and to provide critical foundations for examining their approach to ways of knowing/thinking critically in their scholarly practice.

The Noted Scholars Speaker’s Series offers a vibrant space for exchange and introduces the work of noted scholars, artists and activists to our faculty, students, and participants. The interdisciplinary series aims to feature scholars’ critical ideas and creative work at the radical edges of scholarly, artistic, and activist work. It fosters critical and creative dialogues on current questions, theoretical and methodological approaches, and practice interventions around social justice.
