GRSJ 306: Globalization & Social Justice: Gender, Race & Sexuality in International Politics

Instructor: Dr. Yao Xiao

Term 1

Description:

What is going on in the world? How shall we live together? What kinds of ethics, politics, and movements can we create, to heal the wounds already deepened, widened, and intensified by the (old and new) processes of globalization? This course is a space where we – as co-learners – will explore how frameworks/concepts/tools of social justice are deployed in the context of globalization, and examine to what extent they are effective vehicles for social changes, in what ways, and for whom. Through keywords and themes on coloniality, class, race, gender, and sexuality, we will analyze and challenge structural oppressions across borders and generations, while envisioning a less exploitative, more sustainable, and more just world.
