It’s been a busy spring for Jasbir Puar. The Distinguished Faculty of Arts Professor for the Social Justice Institute gave three notable lectures over the past few months, and has two book-related announcements to celebrate as well. On top of those, Dr. Puar and colleague Dr. Ervin Malakaj were awarded funding from UBC Research Excellence Clusters program. Read on for more details about these accomplishments.
Lectures and Engagements
Lecture Performance at the Royal College of Art in London, England
In February 13, 2026, Dr. Puar and frequent collaborator and Palestinian architect Dima Srouji gave a lecture performance called “Rememberment: Palestine in Real Time” as part of an event called Repair, Return and Reconstruction for Palestine’s Decolonized Future that included a roundtable and other engagements.
Annual Barbara Smith Lecture at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts
Dr. Puar spoke on March 11, 2026 and the topic of their lecture was “You Can’t Pinkwash a Genocide: Sex/Gender/Facism”. This event was sponsored by Department of Critical Race and Political Economy at Mount Holyoke.
Annual Lowe Lecture in Religious Studies at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota
On March 12, 2026, Dr. Puar spoke about “Living in Genocide” in the Religious Studies department of Macelester College.
Book Translations and Launches
Jasbir Puar’s first book Terrorist Assemblages: Homonationalism in Queer Times (2007) was recently translated into Portugese by Editora Unicamp.
Dr. Puar is also pleased to announce the launch of the graphic theory book “This Death Is Not One”: Debilitation and Inhuman Biopolitics in Palestine. This project includes the last chapter of Puar’s book alongside the first Arabic translation of the text, a new preface from Puar reflecting on her work from within this moment of genocide, an introduction by Nasser Abourahme reflecting on the book’s stakes in the present, and illustrations by Xaytun Ennasr.
Research Excellence Cluster Funding Award
Along with co-lead Ervin Malakaj of the Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern Eastern European Studies, Dr. Puar received funding for their Centre for Queer and Trans Cultural Praxis.
