GRSJ’s Dr. Jasbir Puar has been travelling, speaking, and performing around the world this fall. Her widely-acclaimed monograph, Terrorist Assemblages: Homonationalism in Queer Times, is currently being translated in Japanese, due out in early 2027. The symposium detailed below in Tokyo celebrated the book, hosted by the major Japanese scholars who are interlocutors with and translators of the work.
Highlights from her time connecting with other scholars and engaging conversations about gender, race, and debility studies include:
- Keynote at Homonationalism Revisited Symposium presented by Multiculturalism and Intersectionality in Complex CitieS in Tokyo, Japan.
- Keynote at American Studies Association of Korea’s 60th Anniversary conference on Existence and Coexistence in the Age of Crises in Seoul, South Korea.
Puar has a long-standing collaboration with Palestinian architect Dima Srouji and several times every year they present an evolving lecture performance that integrates text, audio, and visual materials. In October, they brought this lecture performance to two venues:
- Keynote: “Rememberment: Palestine in Real Time” at the Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present’s (ASAP) Worldmaking/Worldbreaking conference in Houston, United States of America.
- Lecture performance: University of California Los Angles’s (UCLA) Kanner Forum in Los Angeles, United States of America.
We are grateful to Dr. Puar for sharing her expertise, knowledge, and perspective with community members across the globe.
